Ponidu – Ponjou – Poniou ?

I’ve always referred to this hamlet as Poniou – however I’ve met people recently who call it (and spell it) Ponjou. A quick internet search reveals that previously it was known as Ponidu. According to the Cornish Place Names site, it is derived from the Cornish ponsyow (meaning bridges). Ordinance Survey maps are known locally for having anglicised names.
